Decorating your interior doesn’t have to be a chore. Whether it be a new home or first apartment the experience can be fun. Think of walls as a blank canvas. Here are some tips to keep in mind.
Embrace your taste by filling the walls with art you enjoy. The art in your home should reflect your personality. And above all you should enjoy looking at it.
Colour should be considered. When it comes to color- think of complimentary colors to your furniture and the wall paint color. Light colors work well with dark walls and vice versa; however, the color of frames and mats can allow you to break this rule.
Scale and location make a big difference. There are natural locations to hang art, for example above a sofa. A location like above a sofa is often a larger open wall space. Keeping scale in mind one could either go with one a larger typically rectangular art piece or a collage of smaller art pieces (the largest of which should be in the middle). Odd numbers are more interesting to the human eye than even ones. So think of collages or collections in terms of 3, 5, 7 etc.
Themes can be dramatic. A good idea is to have like themed art closer together- whether it be in a grouping or in a particular room. Themes don’t have to run throughout the home. In fact one theme throughout a house would be boring, but multiple themes throughout a home you can have some fun with. Don’t be afraid to switch things up and try new art for a whole new fresh look.
